Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I select or sign up with a training program?

A: The website contains a map of CNA training programs that are partnering with Palmetto Caregivers. When you register with Palmetto Caregivers you will be sent your unique Palmetto Caregivers ID and a list of the participating training programs. You may want to contact those in your area to determine when they are starting their next classes and the times of day that the programs are offered. Please investigate those details prior to selecting a program. Do not provide a training program with your PC ID number until you are certain you would like to enroll with that program. Once you are enrolled in a training program, you will only be able to switch programs if your training start date is more than 30 days away. If you are scheduled to begin training in less than 30 days, you can only receive Palmetto Caregivers funding to attend the program where you are currently enrolled.

Q: I do not see a partnered training program listed in my area. What do I do?

A: Unfortunately, Palmetto Caregivers does not have partnered training programs in every city in South Carolina. We are continuing to add training programs, so be sure to check the training program map on the website to see when new programs are added. It is also possible that programs near you may not have heard of Palmetto Caregivers. You could ask the training program staff to contact us to obtain information about partnering with Palmetto Caregivers.

Q: I registered for Palmetto Caregivers. What now?

A: After registering on palmettocaregivers.org, students should receive a registration confirmation email. In this email, you will find your PC ID number along with a list of our partnered training programs. Next, you will need to contact a training program located near you to enroll in a CNA training course. Be sure to let the training program know that you are a Palmetto Caregivers student. You may want to investigate multiple programs to see which one is offering the best start date, days, or times for your schedule. Once you decide the program that best fits your needs provide them with your Palmetto Caregivers ID number. Please only provide the training program with your Palmetto Caregivers ID number when you are ready to enroll and commit to that program.

Q: How do I add or change information that I entered in the Palmetto Caregivers’ registration site?

A: To change any information already submitted to Palmetto Caregivers you need to contact the team managing the registration and tracking site. Their email address is: palmettocaregivers@uwosh.edu. As a reminder, you may only switch training programs if the start date for your training is more than 30 days away

Q: Can I do my CNA training online?

A: Some of our partnered training programs offer hybrid training options, with portions of the training conducted online. None of our partnered training programs offer entirely online CNA training courses.

Q: What does the Palmetto Caregivers program cover?

A: Palmetto Caregivers covers the cost of tuition at any of our partnered CNA training programs. Palmetto Caregivers also provides testing vouchers to students when they complete their training, which allows students to register for certification testing at no cost to them.

Q: What will I have to pay for?

A: While Palmetto Caregivers covers the cost of tuition and certification testing for CNA students, there may be additional costs associated with becoming a CNA. Training programs may require background checks for enrollment, uniforms, and equipment such as a stethoscope. These costs are not covered by Palmetto Caregivers. Palmetto Caregivers does not cover healthcare costs associated with CNA training such as immunizations or a physical exams.

Q: I have other commitments and cannot enroll in classes right now. Is there a deadline to participate in the Palmetto Caregivers program?

A: The Palmetto Caregivers program will run through March 2024. You will need to enroll in classes and complete your training by the end of March 2024 to receive the Palmetto Caregivers tuition coverage and testing voucher.

Q: Can I switch training programs?

A: Once you are enrolled in a training program, you will only be able to switch programs if your training start date is more than 30 days away. If you are scheduled to begin training in less than 30 days, you can only receive Palmetto Caregivers funding to attend the program where you are currently enrolled. Therefore, please wait to provide a training program with your PC ID number until you are certain you would like to enroll with that program.

Q: How do I receive my testing voucher after I’ve completed my CNA training?

A: Once staff at the training program enter your completion date into the online database or email us that you are nearing completion, we are able to email you a code for your testing voucher. Receipt of the voucher code from us may take up to 5 business days following the time when the training program entered your completion date.
